The Florida Mountaineers will be joining us for the first time from Jacksonville, and JoLaine Jones-Pokorney will be calling for us.

The Florida Mountaineers are an Old Time String Band hailing from Jacksonville Florida. They have been playing jams, parties, special events, and dances for the past several years.

Brace yourself for a "contra dance wall of sound" of French Canadian, New England and Southern music. Gainesville's own JoLaine Jones-Pokorney will be calling the dances to the music of Possum Trot, an inter-generational band that "blends the new and the old" in a swashbuckling sensation.

Possum Trot is:

* Eleta Sucsy, penny whistle; and
* Kai Sucsy, percussion.

For the first time in Gainesville, the Terra Ceia Twisters will string us along on a voyage of ‘funked’ up traditional tunes. A trio of classroom refugees, all strings and a flute, they will be sure to please.

Partnering with our new friends is a familiar face to our dance, JoLaine Jones-Pokorney in the caller's spot.

Advanced Contra-Fusion is coming our way with "percussion toys" and "wild and crazy recorder improv". Layered with African rhythm and big-band strings, 'Comes When Called' promises to "delight dance floor denizens" with their Celtic, modern and old-time tunes.

Calling advanced delights, JoLaine Jones-Pokorney will show us the way through the contra-fusion and pulsating rhythms.

Our entertainment on Sunday shares the surprise of a fireworks finale. The Rode Skollars Pickup! band, while not promising pyrotechnics, will fill the stage with both new and familiar faces. Whether on the stage or on the floor, all comers are welcome!*

Our caller, JoLaine Jones-Pokorney may have some of her own surprises to cast out to the dance floor.

Fresh from calling at the New England Folk Festival, JoLaine Jones-Pokorney, will have you dancing with and on the spring breezes.

The Yazoo Kickstarts are: Mike Stapleton on fiddle, Bill Paine - mandolin & guitar, Marietta Massey - banjo, David Massey - fiddle & piano.

Aug 31: Advanced Contra Dance - Kumquats at Large with JoLaine Jones-Pokorney

Of the many Kumquat varieties, those At Large are one of the tastiest. Five years in the making, the Kumquats At Large serve up Rich Crew (fiddle and recorder), Sarah Mitchell (penny whistle, flute, drum, foot percussion and hammered dulcimer) and Bill Dudley, guitar.

JoLaine Jones-Pokorney adds her unique spice to the mix, calling dances to challenge and please your dance palate.

November 3 - "Kumquats at Large" and JoLaine Jones-Pokorney

Gainesville's own JoLaine Jones-Pokorney will be calling the dances to the music of "Kumquats at Large", 4pm, November 3 at the Thelma Boltin Center, 516 NE 2nd Ave. Introductory workshop for beginning dancers starts at 3:30pm and is highly recommended! Experienced dancers, be there early to partner with those newcomers and help them have the time of their lives!
