March 29: Advanced contra with Frances and Friends & caller Frannie Marr

Frannie Marr

Frances, Sarah and Bill, with their "lilting tunes and spirited arrangements" will play dance tunes to tell your friends about. These "well-seasoned" musicians are "sure to add spice to your dance experience!"

Dancing in California, Frannie Marr started her calling career in elementary school - teaching her students. A caller in the 2014 Catapult! National Showcase, she prides herself on her "quick walk-throughs, efficient calling, and letting the dance and music flow".

Frances and Friends are:
Frances Pisacane on fiddle
Sarah Mitchell on flute, feet, whistle, drum
Bill Dudley on guitar

This is an advanced dance - no beginner's lesson - it is for experienced dancers willing to be challenged and to enhance their dance skills. In brief, 'experienced' means that you know contra moves without being taught. You know how to recover from a lapse, assist your partner and execute flourishes safely and on time.

Advanced dances are 5th Sundays from 4-7 pm. Social waltzing is 2:45 for about 45 minutes. This special dance has a suggested donation of $7 for those under 25 and $12 otherwise. So, social waltzing or watching, a Band of friends and a nationally showcased caller - all included in one price. Plus, Pot-Luck finger food snacks at the break!

The dance is at the Thelma Boltin Center, 16 NE 2nd Ave, Gainesville, FL 32601. If you snack, bring one to share and a water bottle to help our planet. A babysitter is available at no extra charge. Parking is in the lot across the street and in marked spaces on adjacent streets.
