Nov 30 Advanced contra dance: The Briar Pickers with Vicki Morrison

The Briar Pickers

Advanced Dance off the Turkey and Stuffing Sunday Nov. 30, 4-7 PM

Tumbling in with humor and old-time style, the award-winning Briar Pickers aim to stick to your dance fancy. Musical influences including Swing, Classical and Civil War era music showcase a flair for variety sure to please and entertain discerning dancers.

Our caller, Vicki Morrison, newly retired, aims for world peace through contra dancing. She brings her vision to Gainesville this weekend. Don't miss it!

The Briar Pickers are: Barbara Smith on Fiddle, Jane Royal - Acoustic Bass, Ken Carey on Mandolin, Accordion, Frank Lorenz on Fiddle, Bob Raspa on Guitar, and Jack Piccalo on Banjo.

This is an advanced dance - there is no beginner's lesson and it is for experienced dancers willing to be challenged and to enhance their dance skills. In brief, 'experienced' means that you know contra moves without being taught. You know how to recover from a lapse, assist your partner and execute flourishes safely and on time.

Advanced dances are 5th Sundays 4-7 pm. Dancers 25 and under pay only $5.00 admission - $8.00 otherwise, at the Thelma Boltin Center 516 NE 2nd Ave, Gainesville, FL 32601.

Included is our social waltz to live music before the dance - 2:45-3:30 pm. Beginners always welcome and no partner necessary.

If you snack, bring one to share and a water bottle to save the planet. Parking is in the lot across the street, behind the building and marked spaces on adjacent streets.
