Veteran Florida caller Alice Raibourn teams up with touring band Gotham Carnival (from NYC, Boston and Florida) on Sunday Nov 3rd, 2019 at the Thelma Boltin Center in Gainesville.

Gotham Carnival is:

• Julia Hartman: Fiddle & Baritone Fiddle
• Jean Monroe: Piano, Melodica & Hand Percussion
• Joe De Paolo - percussion

Julia Hartman – Fiddle
Fiddle, Baritone Fiddle. Julia has played up to 90 events annually for non-profits, private parties, and special events including Dance Flurry 2019. She’s a regular performer at several English Country Dance & Contra Dance series in the New York City metro area, the Northeast US and North Carolina plus tours throughout the United States and Canada. Julia studied classical violin performance with a former Assistant Concertmaster of the Boston Symphony. She holds a Music BA and from Columbia Business School, an MBA. (NYC, NC, FL)

Dominique Gagne - Flute, Piccolo, Piano, Hand Percussion
Dominique plays English & Contra dances, as well as Brazilian & Latin Jazz clubs. Winner-National Flute Association Jazz Flute Master class competition 2013. Festival Performances: Champlain Valley Folk Festival, Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. Flute studies with principal of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. Dominique holds a Masters in jazz composition & arranging from UMass Amherst and a Masters in studio jazz writing from UMiami. (NYC)

Jean Monroe - Piano, Melodica, Percussion
Jean’s festival performances include Dance Flurry 2019, Pinewoods 2017 and other folk events from New
Hampshire to Philadelphia-Contra Dance, English Country Dance, Colonial, Regency, Civil War, late-Victorian, Ragtime, sci-fi/steampunk. An accomplished historical dance pianist with a Bachelor’s Degree from Yale, Jean creates & emcee’s our Historical Tales & Tunes Concerts. (Maynard, MA.)

Joe DePaolo – Percussion
A percussionist for over 30 years, Joe plays in jazz/rock fusion, funk, Zydeco, Cajun and contra dance bands. He’s toured the U.S, performed at many festivals and taught both bodhran & doumbek hand drums at NEFFA. Joe combines contra dance calling with drumming and is featured on CDs with Eclectic Dance Orchestra, Coracree and Party of Three.

(New contra dancers, & those wishing to review their dance moves
or help others to do so, please attend this pre-dance contra lesson.)

Suggested Donation:
$10 (ages 26+)
$5 (ages 16-25)

Dancers ages 15 & under get in FREE when accompanied by an adult.

No partner or experience is necessary. Contra dances are taught, walked through, & called.

No special dress is required. Wear comfortable, casual attire & soft-soled shoes.

Snacks at the break are provided by dancers. If you snack, bring one to share & a water bottle to help our planet.

Parking is in the lot across the street & in marked spaces on adjacent streets.
