July 31: Possum Trot & JoLaine Jones-Pokorney

Possum Trot & JoLaine Jones-Pokorney

Brace yourself for a "contra dance wall of sound" of French Canadian, New England and Southern music. Gainesville's own JoLaine Jones-Pokorney will be calling the dances to the music of Possum Trot, an inter-generational band that "blends the new and the old" in a swashbuckling sensation.

Possum Trot is:
* Pete Sucsy, banjo and guitar;
* Laura Price, fiddle;
* Benny McDowell, piano;
* Eleta Sucsy, penny whistle; and
* Kai Sucsy, percussion.

This is an advanced contra dance for experienced dancers willing to be challenged and to enhance their dance skills. In brief, 'experienced' means that you know contra moves without being taught. You know how to recover from a lapse, assist your partner and execute flourishes safely and on time.

Advanced dances are 5th Sundays from 4-7 pm. Doors open at 2:45 for social Waltzing. Dancers 25 and under pay only $5.00 admission; dancers 15 & under dance for free! $10.00 otherwise. Admission includes waltzing and contra, all for one low admission.

No partner is necessary. The dance is at the Thelma Boltin Center, 516 NE 2nd Ave, Gainesville, FL 32601. Snacks at the break are provided by dancers. If you snack, bring one to share and a water bottle to help our planet. Childcare is provided. See our website FAQ for details. http://godsdance.org/?q=node/8 Parking is in the lot across the street and in marked spaces on adjacent streets.
