O Canada! Home to the coolest prime minister and the hottest contra duo – MAIVISH.
The prime minister won’t be coming to Gainesville, but Maivish will arrive on January 3 to grace our stage with a sound that is “mercurial, enchanting, powerful and uplifting.” The duo of American fiddler Jaige Trudel and British born guitarist Adam Brome has been performing together for over a decade – making music with roots in the British Isles, Ireland and America.
Having recently completed a mini-tour with Maivish, caller Angela DeCarlis brings her experience with the duo and her admiration for their music home to Gainesville.
Caller and band will pair once again for the GODS Sunday, January 3rd dance, 4-7 pm.
Intro lesson for newcomers – and warm-up for experienced dancers – starts at 3:30 pm or so.
$12 admission; $7 for age 25 and under. Open waltz to live music by Stay Tuned from 2:45-3:30 pm. Contra beginners lesson 3:45-4 pm. Contra is 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. No partner or experience needed. Newcomers welcome!
An after-dance party in Cross Creek will showcase Adam (guitar, jaw harp, voice) and Jaige (fiddle, voice) playing waltzes. Suggested donation for Maivish of $5 or more if you wish. Please bring a dish or beverage to share; the after-dance waltz party is generously hosted at the home of Michaelyn Luttge. Bring an instrument for jamming.
