A collision of classical strings and African rhythms is just half of the musical storm blowing your way when Category 5 returns to Gainesville. The storm force builds with their high energy jigs and reels - just in time to dance off a day of feasting.
Anchoring the tempest is our caller, Joey Norton.
Category Five is:
• Sarah Mitchell on flute, hammered dulcimer, and percussion;
• Kathie Aagaard on fiddle;
• John McEwen on Irish banjo, tenor guitar, percussion; and
• David Massey on keyboard.
This is an advanced contra dance for experienced dancers willing to be challenged and to enhance their dance skills. In brief, 'experienced' means that you know contra moves without being taught. You know how to recover from a lapse, assist your partner and execute flourishes safely and on time.
Advanced dances are 5th Sundays from 4-7 pm. Doors open at 2:45 for social Waltzing. There is a suggested donation of $5 for those 25 and under and $10 otherwise. Admission includes Waltzing and Contra.
The dance is at the Thelma Boltin Center, 516 NE 2nd Ave, Gainesville, FL 32601. Snacks at the break are provided by dancers. If you snack, bring one to share and a water bottle to help our planet. Child care is provided. See our website FAQ for details. http://godsdance.org/?q=node%2F8
