November 16 - 17 Contra Dance Double-Whammy

November 16 and 17 gets a double-whammy contra dance in Gainesville! Saturday evening, November 16, we have visiting talent from Atlanta - "Whistlin Rufus" and caller Doug Singleton at the Thelma Boltin Center, and Sunday afternoon is the University of Florida contra dance club featuring Jonathan King calling and "Just Twistin' Hay".
November 16 - Doug Singleton will be calling the dances to the music of "Whistlin' Rufus", 8pm, at the Thelma Boltin Center, 516 NE 2nd Ave. Introductory workshop for beginning dancers starts at 7:30pm and is highly recommended! Experienced dancers, be there early to partner with those newcomers and help them have the time of their lives!
Bring a snack to share and a cup or water bottle to reduce waste. Recommended donation is $8/$5 for students and under 21. Childcare is provided for the youngsters who don't wish to dance, but children old enough to know left and right are welcome to join us!
There is waltz instruction by Andrea Wise-Farr featuring live music, beginning at 6:45pm. Your donation to the contra dance will get you into the waltz lesson as well. If you only want to waltz, and not stay for the contra dance, we suggest a $5 contribution.
November 17 - Jonathan King will be calling to the tunes of "Just Twistin' Hay." The dance is held in the Rion Ballroom on the second floor of the Reitz Union Student Center on UF Campus. Price is $5 for ALL students and $8 for everyone else. Parking is free on campus on Sundays. There is no childcare provided at the UF dance and no shared snacks are allowed in the ballroom, but do bring a cup or water bottle, and you may bring a wrapped personal snack if you like.
