Contra dance to one of New England's finest bands, Wild Asparagus, in the new covered dance barn at The Dancing Fish, on Lake Santa Fe in Melrose, FL.

The wonders of Wild Asparagus never cease. Together for 30 years, their music has matured like a fine wine. This powerful ensemble brings a unique sound and dynamic energy to contra dancing weaving a spell that you wish would never end. Their creative, driving tunes keep dancers energized and inspired while George’s smooth, efficient calling makes challenging contras seem easy as pie.

April 15: Comes When Called + Stan Prince

'Comes When Called' promises to "delight dance floor denizens" with their Celtic, modern and old-time tunes.

Calling for 'Comes When Called' is Stan Prince, whose believes that "dancers are there to dance to the music and not to listen to the caller once they’ve learned the dance". He has been calling for ten years and dancing a whole lot longer.

Comes When Called is:
• Kathie Aagaard – fiddle;
• Rich Crew – recorder;
• Susan Marynowski – keyboard, percussion;
• John McEwen – percussion, Irish banjo, tenor guitar, mandolin.

April 2: Kumquat Kapers & Vicki Morrison

Kumquat Kapers & Vicki Morrison

The Kumquat Kapers are Rich Crew (fiddle, recorder), Sarah Mitchell (penny whistle, flute, hammered dulcimer, percussion), and Bill Dudley (guitar).

Blending dance gypsy experience with contra joy, Vicki Morrison calls an engaging program for all levels of dancers. Vicki's enthusiasm for the dance embraces teaching workshops for a thriving contra community.

A collision of classical strings and African rhythms is just half of the musical storm blowing your way when Category Five returns to Gainesville. The storm force builds with their high energy jigs and reels - just in time to dance off a day of feasting.

At the center of the tempest is our caller and jester, Jonathan King.

Saint Augustine jumps with history - from it's Spanish founding to an early winter retreat to modern times as the home of the famed and esteemed Dunehoppers. With award wining fiddling and equally engaging rhythm, percussion and even more strings, their melodic contra will keep you on your feet.

On your feet, says Alice from Orlando, with an encore performance in the callers spot, and a retinue of different dances. Ms. Raibourn's calling lineage boasts history of it's own.

The Old Town Band & caller Donna Hunt

The Old Town Band is a Georgia/Florida old-time string band made up of Beverly Smith, John Grimm and Chuck Levy. This Georgia/Florida trio brings together three master musicians steeped in old-time music, creating a sound that is both fresh and alive, while deeply respectful of tradition.

The Old Town Band are:
* Beverly Smith on guitar;
* John Grimm on fiddle; and
* Chuck Levy on banjo and fiddle.

Brace yourself for a "contra dance wall of sound" of French Canadian, New England and Southern music. Gainesville's own JoLaine Jones-Pokorney will be calling the dances to the music of Possum Trot, an inter-generational band that "blends the new and the old" in a swashbuckling sensation.

Possum Trot is:

* Laura Price, fiddle;
* Benny McDowell, piano;
* Eleta Sucsy, penny whistle; and
* Kai Sucsy, percussion.

The Florida Mountaineers will be joining us for the first time from Jacksonville, and JoLaine Jones-Pokorney will be calling for us.

The Florida Mountaineers are:
